New Media Discussion Forum

Hi Everyone:

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.  My name is Debbie Rosenbaum, and I am one of the Harvard Law students working on Joel Tenenbaum’s case against the RIAA.  I worked closely with Joel and Professor Nesson on the legal aspects as well as the carefully crafted public relations of the case.

We are really excited to be part of your class’ conversation on Intellectual Property in the 21st century.  Be sure to check us out at: www.joelfightsback.com and on twitter.  We hope to reflect on and respond to your opinions both here and on our own blog.

On a personal note, I hope you won’t mind if I jump in on the net neutrality conversation and the online journalism topics.  Over the last few years, I’ve worked in Google’s Public Policy department on their evolving stance on net neutrality.  And I wrote my JD/MBA thesis at Harvard on the evolution of newspapers and books and digital revolution.

Thank you for having me as part of your education.

Best wishes,
Debbie Rosenbaum

I just wanted to get an early welcome up for my incoming Fall semester students. It looks like this is going to be a very interesting semester for us as major developments are likely in both the area of peer-to-peer file sharing litigation and network neutrality. In addition to these topics we are going to be talking about political blogging and online journalism, online social networking, the internet porn business, and the video game industry.

We are also going to have some fun developing your media production and distribution skills. We will be working with raster and vector graphics, audio and video editing, and 3D modeling. The goal is to contextualize the honing of your media production skills through an awareness of the institutional environment in which your digital media products will be distributed.

It may sound like a tall order but I promise it will be fun!
